NBA Tip Off= Media Frenzy

PR Connections #9 – Comm 2322 and 4333

The constant controversy revolving around Lebron James and the Miami Heat has been relentless since James made his decision to “taking his talents to South Beach”. Those words were heard around the world on July 8th, and the reactions were extreme. Miami Heat became the ‘most hated team in America’ according to ESPN and the entire world was ready to witness the season tip-off. Excitement prior to the Miami Heat vs. Boston Celtics game flooded twitter, facebook and television stations. caused their season opening game to top the charts.

The Heat’s new Big Three earned big television ratings. The debut of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh in Tuesday’s opener drew the most viewers for an NBA regular-season game in cable history.

That quote by Penn Live perfectly explains the buzz created around the superstar team, and whether they were fans or haters, they all tuned in to watch the excitement. 7.4 million people in America were ready to see what the new and improved Heat would produce. This is only second to the Bulls game on Feb. 2, 1996 after both Jordan and Magic Johnson came out of retirement.
